Tell us a bit about The King’s Ginger Liqueur
A liqueur specifically formulated by Berry Bros & Rudd in 1903 for King Edward VII. Rich and zesty, the liqueur was created to stimulate and revivify His Majesty during morning rides in his horseless carriage – a Daimler. It has been appreciated by bon viveurs, sporting gentlemen and high-spirited ladies ever since.
Describe the taste in 3 words
Rich, Zesty & Spicy
Why should I try it?
It was so good that HRH King Edward VII awarded us our first Royal Warrant, of which we now have two. There is nothing else like this versatile liqueur out there.
Is the Kings Ginger best enjoyed mixed or neat?
Both, enjoy it neat over ice (or ice cream!)
It also mixes wonderfully with sparkling wine or tonic water and lemon or heated up with apple juice and cider.
One of our favourite recipes is a Ginger Julep.
- 50ml The King’s Ginger liqueurSome mint sprigs
- Optional: sparkling apple juice
In the bottom of a julep cup very gently muddle the lower leaves from two tender mint sprigs with 15ml of The King’s Ginger liqueur. Add plenty of crushed ice, to the top of the cup, and add a further 35ml of The King’s Ginger liqueur. Insert a long handled spoon down the side of cup and swirl until the cup frosts on the outside. This also adds dilution. Top with more crushed ice and garnish with the top leaves from the mint sprig for aroma. For a longer drink, reduce The King’s Ginger liqueur to 35ml and then top with sparkling apple juice.
